Anoushka Shankar
Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitarist and musician. She is also the first and youngest woman to win an award from the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil and is also his daughter. Her childhood was spent bouncing between London in the UK to New Delhi. At New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. She graduated in 1999 from her high schooling in Encinitas CA. Anouskha is yet to be a mature woman but she has a very remarkable career in the field of music and performance. For a long time she regularly performs with her father. Her debut single album Anourag in 1998. The Grammy-nominated Live at Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage is a very significant part of her work. She's played in many major venues all over the world. Anoushka's career does not only comprise musical performances. Bapi the Love of My Live, a picture-biography that is dedicated to her father Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. She also acted on film in 2003. She played as a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising celebrity and her popularity is expected to continue growing. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent a lot of her youth living between London and Delhi then moving to California where she went to the high school. In Delhi at his 75thbirthday celebration she made her debut performing the sitar before the crowd of at the age of four, following her nine year old father. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of experience touring around the globe together with her father. She appeared at Carnegie Hall in her teenage years, and recorded at George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. As a tribute to her status as one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was given the House of Commons Shield by British Parliament.
